US Stocks Push to Fresh Records as Jobs Data Slashes Rate Hike Expectations

US equities surged to fresh records on Friday after a much weaker-than-expected US jobs report sharply cooled Fed rate-hike expectations, with Non-Farm Payrolls badly missing forecasts. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all closed at record highs, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq outperforming as lower yields supported growth stocks. Treasury yields fell across the curve and the dollar weakened as traders scaled back bets on further tightening. Gold surged as a major beneficiary of the softer dollar and falling yields, while oil edged higher amid continued uncertainty over the Strait of Hormuz.
